I just got back from Eagle River, Alaska and heard a series of lectures by a very prolific Bishop of the Eastern Orthodox Church: Kalistos Ware. This was at St. John's Orthodox Church. He has written several books, two of which he is well known for: "The Orthodox Church" and "The Orthodox Way". He knew C.S. Lewis before he went to Cambridge. He is an amazing man! I was able to participate in a couple of informal discussions with him where he was staying.
The subject of his lectures was the mystical aspect of Christ's Passion as it relates to our lives, personally. A smaller focus was the Kingdom of Heaven in our midst: the Church. I will, for a few posts, comment on my take from these lectures. Suffice it to say for now, it was amazing!
We are glad to be back! We had a great time with the community of St. John's. They received us like family and made us feel very welcome. I was so impressed by the emphasis on community that each of the parishoners shared. They truly live out the Church's hermaneutic for Christian living.
Congrats to my friend Sky and his wife Annie for the new addition to their family that will be arriving in late March or early April. May God bless you and your family. I will not be blogging for a few more days because Leeanna and I are very busy right now with my nephew Isaac(3) who is staying with us until Saturday. I am pretty brain dead after being asked, "why?" for everything under the sun. He has been wonderful!
Looking forward to celebrating the Dormition on Friday:
"It is truly right to bless you, oh Theotokos! Ever blessed and most pure and the Mother of our God. More Honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim. Without defilement, you gave birth to God the Word. True Theotokos, we magnify you!"
